A Family Decision Checklist for Royal Palm Senior Residence

A checklist adult children can use before they decide
Deciding on assisted living for a parent is rarely a single conversation. At Royal Palm Senior Residence we keep a simple checklist so siblings can compare the same things — food, atmosphere, staff, local feel, and whether the tour was honest about cost and care.
1. Dining you would share
Ask what is on the menu this week, how special diets are handled, and whether residents look settled at the table. A meal your parent would actually eat is a better test than a slogan about culinary excellence.
2. Atmosphere and the outdoor spaces
Walk the common rooms, the hallway, the patio, and the garden. Does it feel like a house people live in? Can you picture a Sunday visit? Note whether the outdoor courtyard is in use, not just decorated.
3. Staff who know residents
Watch how caregivers speak to people, not only to you. Ask who would be on duty overnight and how the team learns a new resident’s preferences. Kindness that is specific — names, routines, patience — is what families come back for.
4. A Fort Lauderdale house, not a generic chain script
Royal Palm is rooted in this neighborhood. Ask how the team works with local doctors, how visiting works for out-of-town siblings, and how families stay informed. Local knowledge should show up in ordinary answers, not a brochure paragraph.
5. Clear talk about cost and care level
On the tour, ask what is included, what would change if needs increase, and how memory support is handled. You should leave able to explain the numbers to a brother or sister who could not come.
Bring this list, then walk the house
Check each item in person. If a community cannot answer plainly, that is information too. We would rather you compare us fairly with other Fort Lauderdale residences than rush a decision.
